Elaine was one of the preeminent characters in Arthurian Legend, alongside figures such as Sir Lancelot, Guinevere, Merlin, and King Arthur himself. She most prominently appears in Thomas Malory's "Death of Arthur", but also appears in Alfred Tennyson's "Idylls of the King". Tennyson's poem of 'Elaine' is best illustrated by Gustave Dore in this 19th-century Moxon edition.
