(#16, 17, 18, 19, 22, 23, 27, 28, 29, 31, 32) Volumes #16, #18, #23 include attached posters. Volume #32 with some very light soiling. Overall a Fine group. There is something extraordinarily beautiful about the impression of type on paper. - Bruce Licher. (from interview in "Emigre") In 1984, Rudy VanderLans and Zuzana Licko, founded the first digital type foundry. Tapping the design potential of the Macintosh computer (still in its infancy) the husband and wife team created Emigre Fonts. In the same year, they published "Emigre" magazine as a platform for their digital and typographical designs. As a graphic design periodical, "Emigre" magazine promoted pushing graphic design towards a contemporary art aesthetic ultimately influencing a generation of designers. The magazine ran 69 issues between 1984 until its final issue in 2005. Presented here are 11 volumes which were published between 1990 and 1994. Print runs average between 6,000 to 7,000. Full runs of this highly influential landmark in contemporary graphic design can be found in museums dedicated to design including The Museum of Modern Art, New York and the Design Museum in London.

New York: The American Spectator Publishing Company, 1933. Newspaper, 8.75 x 11.25 inches. Folded newsprint with expected toning and brittle folds, but largely free of material chips and tears. Each issue includes the original wrap-around band. Near-fine.. An excellent collection of the first seven issues of The American Spectator founded by George Jean Nathan, Eugene O'Neill, Ernest Boyd, Theodore Dreiser, and James Branch in 1932 to publish original literary and opinion pieces from distinguished American and European writers. The first issue sold for fifty cents (which was then a rather high price for newsprint) and sold out, prompting an additional print-run of twenty thousand copies,…
