The print is as new; the folder is very good but starting to split (has been reinforced with archival Japanese paper); back cover has handling marks and a few minor stains. Emil Ganso (Amer. 1895-1941) Signed in pencil by the artist's widow. The wood engraving block was cut in the 1930's (BUT someone has suggested 1921) ; this is a posthumous printing done for the Woodcut Society in 1951 on a pebbley textured paper; pencil signed by widow with her initials under his name; 4 decal edges on print As per the foreward by his widow, "The Bathers is a block that he finished, ran a few proofs from it, and then put it aside in the press of other work. It is characteristic of his best work and I am happy that it should be presented to the members of the Woodcut Society." "The Bathers." Wood engraving. New York: The Woodcut Society, 1951. #39. The Marchbanks Press, New York. On special paper handmade by Douglas Howell, Westbury, New York. Essay by Mrs. Emil Ganso. Signed in pencil. Image is 7 1/2 x 4 1/2"; sheet is 10 1/4 x 7".
