About This Item

An outstanding copy of this classic novel by the author of "The Drowned World", "Crash", and "High Rise" among others; scarce in this condition. This novel based on Ballard's experiences when interned at Shanghai from 1942-45 during the Japanese occupation; basis for the exceptional Spielberg film starring Christian Bale. Not remaindered, not price clipped, not ex-library; in a protective Mylar sleeve and will ship carefully wrapped in a sturdy box.

Synopsis

Empire of the Sun is a 1984 novel by J. G. Ballard which was awarded the James Tait Black Memorial Prize. Like Ballard's earlier short story, "The Dead Time" (published in the anthology Myths of the Near Future), it is essentially fiction but draws extensively on Ballard's experiences in World War II. Ballard later wrote a sequel, entitled The Kindness of Women.
