Slightly rubbed around edges with a few small tears. Not Price clipped. With protective plastic wrap). Mild foxing to edges. Else a clean and tight copy. 571pp. Many B&W illustrations within text, some full-paged. The author discusses the traditional image of the Witch in fiction, and the more serious idea of Witchcraft as a Christian Heresy which was seen as a threat to Society and the Church. The main period covered is from the beginnings in the 15th century to its ending in the 18th. There is a clear distinction made between Witchcraft, Satanism and Sorcery. Many accounts from historical records of the persecution of individuals, especially old women, and groups.
