Berkeley, CA: Rainbow Zenith Press, 1972. First Printings. Single Sheets. Very Fine; Near Fine. "The longing for growth is not wrong. The nub of the problem now is how to flip over, as in jujitsu, the magnificent growth-energy of modern civilization into a nonacquisitive search for deeper knowledge of self and nature."(from fifth paragraph) (1) A broadside (8&1/2"x14") reproducing an article originally published in the January 12, 1972 issue of the New York Times by Gary Snyder, among the foremost primary poets of the Beat Generation & beyond; & a far-sighted ecological activist as exemplified here. An article that remains relevant now more than ever. According to John Sherlock's comprehensive Bibliography of works by & about Snyder, this was published by Rainbow Zenith Press the same year as it appeared in the NYT (1972) in an edition of "at least 100 copies." With collage-illustration by J. C. Suares. On yellow paper stock. (2) The same as (1) above on light green paper stock. Two variations of this extremely rare Snyder collectible. (1) in very fine condition with only small crease-bumps at lower left corner; a few very faint, small creases on surface. (2) in near-fine condition with very mild browning-sunning at margins & edges; several mild bump-creases near & at upper right corner; tiny chips at right & bottom edges; small closed-tear crease at lower right corner; a few very faint, small creases on surface.
Both items are currently mounted on stiff boards, in protective shrink wrap, will be shipped together, carefully rolled in a tube.
