London: The Hogarth Press, 1940. First Edition. Hardcover. Fine/Near Fine. First printing, duodecimo size, 79 pp. Edward Morgan Forster (1879-1970) remains highly regarded today for his novels A Passage to India, Howard's End, and A Room with a View; in fact, he was nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature in 13 different years. This volume, England's Pleasant Land, is a pageant play that was performed two years prior to this book's publication to great acclaim; it deals with "the English countryside, its growth and its destruction" and given the timing (on the brink of WWII) one can easily see how much of an impact this play would have.
