Sowerby, 1794.. 8vo. 14 x 23 cm. 5-1/2 x 8-1/8 inches Contemporary green straight-grained morocco, gilt, 2 morocco labels on spines, spines a little dulled, marbled endpapers. 1f, of text cut out and loose, vol. X last f. of text torn in margin, some foxing and browning.Top of spine cracked but intact.Binding by Cupper & Ives, Bank Place, Norwich. English Botany was a major publication of British plants comprising a 36 volume set, issued in 267 monthly parts over 23 years from 1791 to 1814. The work was conceived, illustrated, edited and published by the botanical illustrator and natural historian, James Sowerby.Provenance: The Rothamsted Collection, from the Lawes Agricultural Library, with one small stamp on inside free endpaper.
