1878. Print. New. James Jacques Joseph Tissot. Etching by James Jacques Joseph Tissot on Paper. SIGNED PRINT. Size: 8" x 12" (210mm x 310mm). Jacques Joseph Tissot was a popular French painter and illustrator of fashionable, modern scenes and society life in Paris before moving to London in 1871. A friend and mentor of the Impressionist painter Edgar Degas, Tissot also painted scenes and figures from the Bible. This drypoint etching is signed and dated in the plate at top right 1878. It is entitled Ennuyease (ennui). A bored wife dreams while her husband plans a house by the river Thames at Wapping. Bill of sale from Craddock & Barnard art dealers for £117 dated 1976.
