About This Item
London: Edward Moxon & Co., 1864. A collection of sixteen poems by the Poet Laureate. This is a Very Good (Minus) copy of the First English Edition. Original publisher's green cloth binding, decoratively ruled and stamped; titling on the spine in gilt. Clean text; 178 pages. The publisher has placed an eight-page catalog [dated "September, 1864"[ in the front of the book; a rather unusual practice in the book trade. Front paste-down has the bookplate of John Francis Neylan (1885-1960). A prominent lawyer, newspaper publisher, and politician, Neylan served on the Board of the University of California during the contentious years of the Loyalty Oath. Spine faded to brown, but with gilt titling still bright; split to the fore-edge of the spine;. The front gutter has been reinforced with filmoplast; the rear is cracked but holdin. In an archival plastic protector within a custom-made slipcase. . First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good (Minus)/No Jacket. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.
