Nov. 1943" stamped to first leaf (i.e. half-title), held together by the contemporary/original paper-clip, inserted through holes in upper inner corner. Small nicks and tears to extremities of first and last leaf, not affecting text nor inscription. Several pencil-corrections, presumably in the hand of the recipient. 13 leaves, printed on rectos only, in consecutive order, being four unnumbered leaves (numbered in hand, in pencil 3,4,5,6) + pp. 7-15. WITH A SIGNED (M.H.) PRESENTATION-INSCRIPTION FROM HEIDEGGER TO FIRST LEAF: "Mit herzl. Gruß u. Dank / Freiburg 6. XII. 43 / M. H." Original proof sheets, with a signed and dated presentation-inscription, for Heidegger's elucidation of Hölderlin's poem "Heimkunft/An die Verwandten", which was published in 1944, and which constitutes one of only six philosophical pieces that Heidegger publishes within the 10 year period between 1937 and 1947. Heidegger's memorial speech ("Andenken"), the six first pages of which are present here, together with his entire "Heimkunft/An die Verwandten", is a speech that Heidegger gave on the celebration of the 100th year of Hölderlin's death, at the University of Freiburg, July 6th 1943. The 100th year speech was centered around Hölderlin's poem "Heimkunft", which is present in its entirety. It was published in 1944, together with the 100th year speech and "Hölderlin und des Wesen der Dichtung" (originally published in 1936) under the title "Erläuterungen zu Hölderlin's Dichtung", the half-title, title-page, preface, and separate title for "Andenken an den Dichter. "Heimkunft/An die Verwandten" of which are also present here as proof sheets here. The interpretation of Heidegger's elucidation of Hölderlin's "Heimkunft" has played a significant role in Heidegger scholarship, both because it is one of merely six philosophical pieces that Heidegger writes over a period of 10 years, because these years cover the Second World War, and because the theme of the poem "Homecoming" - the transcendental homelessness from the fatherland - causes one to reflect over what connection the "fatherland" has with nationalism and patriotism, or whether, in this poem Heidegger rather sees "the fatherland" in the light of the broader history of being and the essence of Western fate.
