LONDON: CHAPMAN AND HALL, 1910 Brown Calf leather quarter binding with laid on printed paper title slip, grey paper covered boards with gilt ornately decorated title block 200 x 145 mm approx. [iv] + 234 nos. pp. Portrait frontis with tissue guard. Book block of quality made paper with deckle edges. Undated [1910] Dated by reference to copac. The Books of the Verulam Club Bacon's Essays - per half title. Good (Book- restoration work - the book was bought in by us with the original grey paper covered spine split along the entire front hinge and with the glue to the spine failing. The back strip has been cleaned off and re-glued with p.v.a. and new mull and back strip applied, the paper sides lifted and brown calf leather fitted as a quarter binding with the original paper title slip laid on, thus retaining the attractive gilt blocked title to upper board. New plain end papers attached and re- cased. Slight damage to paper covering from lifting to insert leather.No previous owner name or insc. No other notable defects).
