An Everyman's Library edition offering writings on literature and other topics by Belfast-born Robert Lynd (1879-1949). Though a literary critic, Mr. Lynd was "devoted to the cause of Irish independence" (per Ross, p. 314). Everyman's Library catalog no. 990 in their Essays and Belles Lettres series. With an introduction by Desmond MacCarthy. --- In Everyman's Library binding style 3 with full orange cloth and gilt-stamped spine titling. Yellow jacket features Eric Ravilious-designed knot to cover. --- Exposure to moisture has resulted in minor rippling to textblock and dampstains to leaf at rear of book, else a clean, firmly-bound copy. Fair only, severely brittle jacket with numerous tears & dampstains, publisher's yellow sticker to change title to Lynd's work from a biography of Napoleon; remaining mostly intact and protected in removable mylar wrapper.; 16mo - 6 to 7 in. tall; xiv, 274 pages .
