Very Good+ in Very Good only DJ: The Book shows light shelving wear to the lower extremities; ta tiny white dot (paint?) at the top edge of the front panel; the binding leans very slightly, but remains secure; the text is clean. Bright and Clean. Not so very far from "As New". The DJ shows a short, closed tear at the top of the front hinge and some faint wrinkles along the top edge of the front panel; moderate rubbing to the panels; faint soiling; to the areas of white background field; the price is unclipped; mylar-protected. Attractive and intact, but shows mild wear. NOT a Remainder, Book-Club, or Ex-Library. 8vo. (9.35 x 6.35 x 0.8 inches). 208 pages. Profusely illustrated with duotone photographs, drawings, designs, etc. Language: English. Weight: 18 ounces. Hardback with DJ. This is a surprisingly sophisticated needlepoint book by old time movie star Sylvia Sidney. Tidbits of her career are interspersed with the story of her journey to becoming an advanced needlepointer. There are black and white photos and directions for various stitches and techniques. Color photos of her beloved pug dogs, the St. Francis of Assisi prayer, wonderful crab and frog pillows, and an intricate woodland scene will inspire. I came across this book in the early 1970's when I first became interested in needlepoint. At that time it was the only book on the market that showed original designs and the first of celebrity books on the subject as people were becoming interested in needlepoint once more. I have made a number of the designs and they are charming, and well depicted so that they are easy to use. I have returned again and again to this book. If you are a serious craftsman you will treasure it. Recommended for the author's insight into the needlepoint process and for its historical value.
