About This Item
Melbourne: Printed for the author by J.P. Atkinson and Co., 1855. Book. Good. Red Cloth. First Edition. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. 1st edition. 2 l., [title page and Nota Bene] 126p, page size 20.5cm. Edges reinforced on 3 margins and neat repairs, pages 97 to 104 unevenly trimmed without loss, page 113/114 printed askew and trimmed with loss of the last or first letters in the last three lines of the text. Some foxing, browning and creases mostly on front and back pages. Lacking its original paper covers it has been bound into a maroon cloth binding with gilt spine title [which has been misdated 1885]. The Eureka Stockade was the culmination of civil disobedience in the Ballarat region during the Victorian gold rush with miners objecting to the expense of a Miner's Licence, taxation (via the licence) without representation and the actions of the government and its agents (the police and military). Extremely rare. The only comprehensive eyewitness account..
