The leader of the Swiss team of mountaineers who, in 1952, had been the first team to lay out a route to within a few hundred feet of the top of Mount Everest (with the Brits making the first ever summit there the following year), here describes his team's third expedition in 1956, along with their ascent of the heretofore unclimbed summit, Lhotse. Hardcover 8vo has blue cloth-covered boards with silver lettering to spine, in 222 pages + 24 pages of black-and-white photos throughout & a color frontispiece. A FIRST EDITION, First Printing (undated, c. 1957), this is from a single sportsman's library & in VG+ condition: very clean & bright, binding strong & straight, pages creamy white with a hint of tanning. Former owner has made some neat pen notations in chpt. IV & on page 91 concerning dates; else unmarked. The unclipped DJ (with orig. $4.50 price intact) is VG-: clean & bright, with mild rubbing & small chips/areas of insect damage.
