New York: D. Appleton and Company, 1898. Later edition. Hardcover. Very Good+. 8vo. [3], iv-xxii, [3], 4-382, [2] pp. Half contemporary pebbled brown sheep over marbled boards, gilt lettering and rules on the spine; top edge gilt. Illustrated with a few in-text diagrams. Labeled as the second edition on the title page but the second edition was published in 1891. UCMP Berkeley, "The impact of Joseph LeConte (1869-1901)". Le Conte was a natural historian who over his lifetime became a vocal proponent of Darwin's Theory of Evolution. However, throughout his life Le Conte attempted to fashion a blend of the scientific theory with his faith. Nevertheless he was an important American scientific communicator of Darwinism. Minor rubbing to the extremities and three address labels on the free front endpaper.
