About This Item

Melbourne: Ewing Gallery, Melbourne University Union, 1981. 2nd ed.. Paperback small square quarto, very good condition, stapled, black & white & colour text-photos (paintings), faint foxing top edge, pages faintly toned, staples slightly rusted, cover corner tips slightly creased, white background covers little marked, minor edgewear. 52 pp. This stapled exhibition catalogue is about the collection donated by Samuel Arthur Ewing in 1938 to Melbourne University. This is the second catalogue of the Ewing collection at the University: the first was published in 1938 to record the gift and the opening of the Ewing Gallery. The range of works by Hans Heysen in the Ewing collection is large, including a very early oil painting (Cat. no. 8) and eight works on paper from the 1900s to 1933. These are a good indication of Heyson's Australian landscapes as well as his work while in Europe at the turn of the century.
