About This Item
Boston, n.d.. Very Good. Exchange Book Store, 77 State Street, Walk 'till you're foot-sore, Nothing like meet [?]./ Vols. imperfect, Half the leaves lost, 18 thousand, Half the first cost / Fortunes made here; Mind the entry, Gentle Trader, (Town or Country.) / New, for old Books, Worth a farthing, Dust and Cobwebs, Into the bargain. / (Rare) - (Scarce) - Enough said, once said; (Up-Stairs) Josy Bum-stead." Song by A. Catch parodying the Exchange Book Store. Joseph Bumstead was a Boston printer and bookseller with a reputation for poorly made books. We purchased this item at auction in Rhode Island several years ago. Original sheet music with handwritten lyrics and notation. Paper measures approximately 5" tall x 8" wide. Sheet creased with minor discoloration along folds. No date, but Exchange Book Store was in operation in the early 19th century.
