New York: Amtorg Trading Corporation, 1929. No Edition Stated. 4to (10 1/8 x 7 inches; 255 x 177 mm), [74] pages, in illustrated wrappers. A profusely illustrated catalogue of an important exhibition of contemporary Soviet art held at Grand Central Palace in New York in February 1929. It lists hundreds of works by artists and sculptors and includes such well-established artists as El Lissitzky, Vladimir Tatlin and David Sterenberg. With more than three dozen pages of black-and-white plates, a foreword by Christian Brinton, an American art critic, collector, and curator, and an introduction by Soviet educator and photographer P. [Pavel] Novitsky. "This exhibition, reflecting the real Russian state of mind of the present day, will cause more understanding between the people of America and Russia than millions of words," said Saul G. Bron, chairman of Amtorg Trading Corp., the show's sponsor. (Quoted in The New York Times, February 1, 1929, page 16). The Times reported on February 24 that more than 100,000 people had visited the exhibition, which also included handicrafts and other art works.
