An early reprint, following the Knopf first edition. Deeping's novel of expats ("human derelicts") in a coastal Italian town, involving the English-language library and a novelist and an architect. The Skrenda-illustrated dust jacket, printed in pleasantly garish colors, depicts a Ravello-like viewpoint with a woman expressing a wistful posture. Dust jacket is now protected in a removable, clear archival sleeve.
