First American Edition (abridged, from the second London edition) of this first-hand account of the suppression of the Borneo pirate tribes in 1843-44 by Sir James Brooke, Rajah of Sarawak, Keppel, and other commanders of the British ships of war. Brooke had met Keppel, a British naval officer who had served in the Opium War (1841-42), at Singapore early in 1843, and a lasting friendship developed between the two men. Together they conducted expeditions against the Malays and Dayaks of the Seribas River, and the pirates of the Sakarran.
