About This Item

London: Seeley Service and Company, 1976. Leather. Fine/Very Good Indeed. 10" by 7.5". Not Stated. A handsomely bound, limited edition copy of this work on Dutch history by Duncan Caldecott-Baird, in the original slipcase as called for. Covering the period of 1572 to 1574, this work is a comprehensive overview of the revolt of the Netherlands and its early struggle for independence. Using a manuscript from Walter Morgan largely as source material, this work covers the life of Walter Morgan, his relationship with William Cecil, Lord Burghley of England, and the campaigns that formed this result from 1572 to 1574. Including more then twenty illustrations throughout, many of which are maps. Also including a frontispiece facsimile of Walter Morgan's manuscript and pictorial pastedowns and free-endpapers based on Dutch etchings and engravings by Jacob de Gheyn circa 1450-1700. Part of a limited edition printing of 250 copies, of which this is number 240. In the original slipcase, as called for. In the publisher's original quarter calf binding with decorative cloth covered boards. Externally, excellent, with no discernible shelf wear. Slipcase is smart, with just minor shelf wear. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean. Fine
