London: Edward Stanford, Royal Geographical Society, 1951. 8vo. 12 pages including 3 in-text sketch maps, plus photographic plates for illustration. Original condition with blue wrappers, titles to front, and containing all the ads. This is a complete issue, seldom found in such good and original condition. Tilman's own account of his British Annapurna Expedition, undertaken in 1950 and led by him, includes modest and humorous discussions of local people, language and customs, fascinating villages such as that of Tangbe in the upper Kali, as well as descriptions of arduous river crossings, and a detailed breakdown of the southern approach to Everest. Tilman hoped to take a small reconnoitering and collecting party, such as that which had explored the Langtang, to engage in plant collecting, amending existing maps, whilst attempting no great peaks. However, the Himalayan Committee sought to build a nucleus of experienced Himalayan climbers and thus pressed for a larger team and ascent attempts. The party comprising Tilman, Dr. Charles Evans, J. H. Emlyn Jones, D. G. Lowndes, Jimmy Roberts, and Bill Packard, was near successful in ascending of Annapurna IV and made a number of other peak attempts.. First Edition.
