About This Item
London: J. Nicholson et al, 1715. Tenth edition, revised and corrected. Leather bound. Good. 398 p. + index. 34 cm. Engraved frontispiece portrait. Full leather with worn boards and bumped corners. Small holes in front endpaper. Some thumbing of title page and endpapers. Repaired endpaper at rear. Detached paper at rear has ink errata notations. Hole in rear pastedown extends to rear endpapers.
First published in 1659, Pearson's "Creed" is a longlasting standard of the Church of England. Extensively quoting scripture and ancient authors, Pearson created a work that is considered an early refutation of Gnosticism. The book won high praise, not only from Anglican theologians, but from such men as Samuel Johnson.
