Oxford, 1847. Hardcover. Very Good. Two volumes 8vo, full polished calf, raised bands, gilt titles on brown lozenges, ruling and florets in the compartments, gilt ruling on the boards, all edges stained red, marbled endsheets. Moderate rubbing at the corners, a bit more at the spine ends and the gutters, small chip at the top of the spine of Vol. I, both front hinges cracked but bindings firm, text block fresh with no foxing. Both volumes have the bookplate of John Stratford Dugdale, a Member of Parliament in the late 1880s. On the ffep of Vol. I is a gift inscription to Dugdale, dated 1853 when he would have been 18 and just entering Eton, from and signed by Edward Coleridge, Vicar at Eton, and Samuel Taylor Coleridge's nephew.
