Ex Officina Elzeviriana, Lugd. Batavorum (Leiden), 1633. Hardcover. Very Good. Elzevier, 1633. 424 pages. Fortunat Sprecher (1585-1647) was a Swiss lawyer and jurist; first published in 1617 under the title "Pallas Rhaetica armata et togata," this is his history and description of Switzerland's canton of Grisons (German: Grabunden), once called Rhaetia as a province under the Roman Empire. His work is preceded by a dedication to the alliance of the three leagues which comprised the Grisons country. Text in Latin. Contemporary overlapping vellum with titling hand-inked to the spine, dated 1864. Vellum shows deep orange-red discolorations particularly to top edge. Binding sound. Light occasional foxing, with "1794" written to FFEP with ink transference to paste-down, interior else clean and free of markings. Engraved header at dedication. Engraved title page and initials. 2.5" x 4.5". (BP-016)
