BRIGHT RED jacket is not sunned. The dj spine is missing 1 inch of the top of its spine, otherwise very nice. Printed for T Longman in Pater-Noster-Row, [London], 1762, first edition (but see later); 8vo, pp xx, 371 plus page of list of books printed for Thomas Longman; contemporary calf, both boards detached and the one mismatched in design with the other, spine good but with some small loss head and foot so a copy in need of binding repair; bottom corner of front free end paper missing but the book block complete, firm and with good margins although with a little light dust soiling here and there, particularly on the title page where exposed at the foot. Although this is indeed a first edition under this particular title the work was earlier printed 1750 as "The Reflector Representing Human Affairs As They Are and May Be Improved ... " Other than for the title and, hence, title page, this Longman reprint appears to be identical to the earlier edition right down to the list of books at the end. Vol. 1: [2], 463, [1] p., [2] leaves of plates (including added t.p.); v. 2: [2], 475, [1] p., [2] leaves of plates (including added t.p.). Engraved frontispiece and title page each volume by Thomas Uwins, engraved by Charles Turner Warren."Memoirs of a Lady of Quality (inserted as ch. 81) are by Frances Vane. First published in 1751 by D. Wilson in 12mo, this most likely the first in 24mo and with the Uwins engravings. Very Good in contemporary quarter calf over marbled boards, back with gilt ecorations and lettering over yellow leather label. Toning to end pages and light scattered toning throughout, edges of boards rubbed. Binding tight, a charming set. . Later Edition. Quarter Calf . Very Good/No Jacket, As Issued. 24mo - over 5" - 5¾" tall.

Two volumes Very Good Plus in contemporary full calf, back with gilt devices and rules, leather label with gilt lettering, covers with gilt rule, later end papers which are stamped S & S, light toning, light rubbing to edges of covers, overall a quite pleasing set. With preface and notes by the editor, Bishop Hurd, and a life of the author by T. Sprat. . Second Edition. Full Calf. Very Good Plus/No Jacket, As Issued. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.
