With one page of publisher's adverts to the rear. A collection of the fables of John Gay, with sixty-six fables in this volume. The fables include 'The Shepherd and the Philosopher', 'The Lady and the Wasp', 'The Universal Apparition', 'The Two Monkies', 'The Bull and the Mastiff', 'The Elephant and the Bookseller', and more. With fifty fables to Part One, and sixteen fables to Part Two. With notes by William Coxe. Prior owner's ink inscription to the recto to the front free endpaper, 'M. Bevan Evans. Jan 1928'. In a half calf binding with marbled paper to the boards. Externally, smart. Light rubbing to the boards. A few light marks to the spine. A little bumping to the extremities. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and generally clean with the odd spot. Prior owner's ink inscription to the recto to the front free endpaper. Very Good Indeed
