New York.: Maecenas Press and Random House.. 1970.. Part I: Text by James A. Michener, illustrated with original woodcuts by Jack Levine; printed on Arches paper, the original 'hors-texte'(un-numbered) coloured woodcut, is printed on Japanese vellum, with 4 original lithographs signed in the plate by the artist. It is printed on Rives paper, loose as issued, in an off-white watered silk portfolio with black leather fastener. Part II: The Sketchbook; with 54 watercolours, gouaches and drawings printed in phototype and pochoir processes on Ingres paper, from 2 - 40 colours were hand-brushed on each. Contained in a full black leather portfolio. The clam-shell box is showing signs of wear, the cloth is wearing at the head and tail of spine and some water marks are visible, also the leather fastener is chipped and a little creased, however, internally this is a fine copy. An elephant folio - approximately 51 x 23.5cm. Number 2098 of the Deluxe Limited Edition Portfolio of 2500 copies, this copy is hand signed twice by both Levine and Michener in the colophon and on the inside of the clamshell box. .
