Penciled name blank page. 1/2" closed tear to cloth top edge spine with some additional minor edge wear to top and bottom spine edge and front fore-edge corner tips, and Lightly age-toned bottom and fore- text block, and some foxing on fre-edge margins. No markings, binding tight, clean, white and bright. 5" x 7.75". Green cloth with stamped borders, gilt device to front board, gilt lettering to spine, and brown top text block edge. "In 1843, Wallace began writing his first novel, The Fair God, but it was not published until 1873. The popular historical novel, with Cortez's conquest of Mexico as its central theme, was based on William H. Prescott's History of the Conquest of Mexico. Wallace's book sold seven thousand copies in its first year. Its sales continued to rise after Wallace's reputation as an author was established with the publication of subsequent novels.".
