Violet cloth boards with black titling on the front and spine, edgeworn at extremities and bottom corners bumped. Upper page edges toned. Interior is unmarked. Binding is sound. B&W pictorial DJ is toned along spine and edges, with tears at extremities. 8vo. BOOK INFO: Helena Modjeska (October 12, 1840 ? April 8, 1909), whose actual Polish surname was Modrzejewska, was a renowned actress who specialized in Shakespearean and tragic roles. 'The truth is, she was an innovator: the first to bring Ibsen to the American professional stage (A Doll's House, Louisville, Ky., 1883), the first to risk Sudermann's 'advanced' social drama Magda, and an early supporter of the 'new drama' as represented by Clyde Fitch.'
