London: Printed and Published by John Fairburn, [s.d., c.1830s] 13pp, [3]. Wrappers included in pagination. With eight hand-coloured engraved illustrations in the text. Oversewn in original publisher's yellow wrappers, hand-coloured pictorial title label pasted to upper wrapper. Extremities worn, marked, dust-soiled, and creased, loss to spine, short tears to both wrappers, slight loss to lower corner of upper wrapper. Some spotting internally. A rare survival of a vibrant chapbook retelling, for a juvenile readership, of William Cowperâs (1731-1800) The Diverting History of John Gilpin (1782), a comic ballad concerning the titular draper and his misadventure with a runaway horse. OCLC records copies at five locations (Indiana, Oxford, Princeton, Washington, and V&A). . 8vo.
