London: Locke Ellis, 1910. A fabulously scarce first printing of a story by the famous New Zealand and English writer. This is the first appearance of "A Fairy Story" by Katherine Mansfield, spelled "Katherina", which preceded her first published book, "In a German Pension". Original green papered boards, cream papered spine a bit darkened. 72pp, 12pp ads, including an art exhibit at Grafton Galleries for "Manet and the Post Impressionists, including Cezanne, Van Gogh, Gaugin, Matisse, etc. November 8th to January 15th" (Wish we'd bought one!). Loosely inserted, an admission ticket for "Aug. E. John at The Chenil Gallery Chelsea, Exhibition of Provencal Studies, October 26-December 31". Covers slt. dusty o/w very good. Not found on Trove. The National Library of New Zealand holds the typescript copy of the story, with ms corrections, and the annotation "The Open Window, Dec 1910" which has been crossed out. Ref: MS-Papers-11327-037.
