This dramaticfable theatrically portrays the catastrophic destruction of the second Jewish temple, exploring the theme of rebellious Jerusalem, which fell to the Roman forces in the year 70. Characters include the Romans Terentius Rufus, Caius Placidus, and Diagoras a Stoic philosopher. As well as the Jews Simon the Assassin, Ben Cathla Leader of the Edmomites and Abiram a false Prophet. Milman was anordained minister who became dean of St. Paul's,he wasbest known however,for his scholarly achievements. He translated Sanskrit poetry, and wrote several works of religious history, including a History of the Jews and a History of Christianity under the Empire, both of which approached their subject matter with historical precision and rational detachment. Condition: In decorative calf binding with gilt lettering and design to the spine. Externally, a triflerubbed to boards and extremities. Internally, firmly bound with bright pages. Some scattered light spotting. Overall: VERY GOOD.
