Original cloth; pp. xii, 271, [4, advertisements], large folding map; cloth a littlen marked and darkened; foxing initially and at the end; an acceptable copy of an otherwise unobtainable book. First edition, very rare. Sidney James Owen (1827-) was lecturer in Indian history at Oxford University. This book, based on many lectures and Indian historical sources describes the period from 1657 to 1761, and puts the disintegration of the Mughal Empire down to increasing ethnic and religious divisions, fostered and exploited by various rulers and warring factions.
