About This Item

New York, New York, U.S.A.: E.P. Dutton & Co., Inc., 1971. First Edition First Printing . Hardcover. Near Fine/Near Fine. The author draws on two solid years of in-depth interviews with participants & witnesses to the Tate-LaBianca murders, including Manson, visits to the Spahn ranch & other sites in Inyo County & Death Valley, investigations into secret occult societies, motorcycle gangs, & countercultural phenomena to place the Manson family in the context of the 1960s-1970s & attempt to explain how Charlie manipulated his followers into doing his bidding. This is a scarce FIRST EDITION, First Printing, one of the few remaining copies before the publisher & author were sued by the Process--Church of the Final Judgment for "false & defamatory material" linking Manson & his activities to the Church. Publication was halted & a notice about the suit was ordered to be inserted into all copies remaining in Dutton's possession: that insert is NOT PRESENt HERE. 412 pages. With deep blue cloth-covered boards & silver letting to spine, this hardcover octavo is in Near Fine condition: very clean, binding strong & straight, hinges intact. Pages noticeably tanned, heaviest around outer edges. Crossed-out name to half-title page, some paper residue to ffep, else completely unmarked. The price-clipped DJ is also Near Fine: bright & clean & unfaded with just a hint of rubbing to extremities; nicely protected in new clear mylar cover free! Our photos depict the Exact book you will receive, never "stock" images of books we don't actually have!
