Sewn binding is a bit stiff (and text block is pulling away from boards/creased) but pages are still secure. Covers are scuffed/toned/soiled with rubbing to extremities, a few small bumps to edges, head/heel of spine slightly frayed. Outer page edges are dust soiled/scuffed. Nice reading copy. . Sixth Edition. Hard Cover. Good -/No Jacket as Issued.

Red cloth stamped in black, titled in gilt on spine, all edges red; blue-green coated endpapers; 227,[1]pp; list of works facing t.p.; title page vignette. Lightly rubbed, spine slightly darkened, internally clean and sound: Very Good. "Little Classic Edition" of Hawthorne's first book, first published in 1828. Hawthorne was ashamed of the book and attempted to suppress it; it was not republished until 1876, several years after his death, when Osgood released several issues. CLARK A1.3.a.
