An abridged version of Ibsen's opera being 'the outcome of a practical attempt to produce that drama. Both the commentary and the cuts have consequently been made from the point of view of a stage manager'. The first British performance of the play was given at Queen's Hall, Edinburgh 14th Februray 1908 under the auspices of the Edinburgh Lodge of the Theosophical Society.
