Dark brown cloth with blind-stamped central border-lines to covers, gilt spine lettering, clean but 2 cm cloth split to top back joint and a closed 1 cm edge tear towards bottom fr, joint, corners bumped but no cloth breakage, well above average to judge by other listings. f/piece with tissue guard + viii + 171,1 futher ill.; end-gutters thinly split, rear one now checked with archival tear-repair tape, tissue guard tanned down inner edge and loose towards top t.p. side to which it is slightly adhered lower down, light scattered tanning spots verso last leaf and facing end-paper, verso fr. end-paper and facing half-title have fairly faint edge-tanning, half-title has pencil sig. of Derek Gibson (Derek Gair Gibson 193-2021, eminent pioneering cardiologist and also a bibliophile) above pencil date 22.11.90, verso fr. end-paper has an 1870-dated sig. above 6 line of early penciled text which seem to be about Sandemanians (to which Faraday belonged), also slipped in are a 1960 Blackwell's invoice and receipt from R,E, Gibson of Appled Physics Lab. at Johns Hopkins University, presumably D.G. Gibson's relative. 13.5 cm x 20.5 cm
