The book shows moderate spine lean; a former owner's name and phone number at the upper front free endpaper and her name at the lower corner of the rear pastedown endpaper; the binding remains secure; the text is clean. The DJ shows faint foxing along the outside edge of the front panel; a tiny nick at the bottom edge of the front panel; a quarter-inch closed tear at the top edge of the rear panel; else very light wear to the extremities; mild rubbing to the panels and faint soiling to the white background field of same; the orange-toned background field of the backstrip has been heavily sunned, though the white titles thereon remain legible; the price has been clipped. Flawed, but serviceable. NOT a Remainder, Book-Club, or Ex-Library. 8vo. (8.55 x 5.8 x 1 inches). xii, 177 pages. Language: English. Weight: 16.7 ounces. Hardback with DJ. In her book Farewell to Manzanar (1973), Houston writes about her family's experiences at Manzanar, an internment camp in California's Owens Valley where Japanese Americans were imprisoned during World War II. The novel was adapted into a television movie in 1976, starring Nobu McCarthy, who portrayed both Houston as well as her mother in the film.
