New York: D. Appleton. Very Good/No Jacket. 1885. Hardcover. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall USOG1-LO-Very good hardcover in blue cloth, gilt title card with a fine fold out map in the back and 4 steel engravings. Signed on the front end paper by D.L. Brainard. Brainard is oneof only 6 survivors of the Lady Franklin Bay Expedition by Commander Adolphus Washington Greely in June 1881-1884. He wrote his own journal of the expedition. Inscription to Miss jassee Phelps and dated 1886 with a 4"x2" photo of Brainard with a medal decorated jacket. The bookplate is that of jasse L. P. Leavitt, The Jasse Phelps to whom Brainard inscribed, "A Merry Christmas to Miss Jasse Phelps from her friend." D. L. Brainard. Book has light wear, front hinge a little shaky. A few underline or margin marks for passages in pencil. Overall a scarce, signed thus copy in very good condition. .
