The spine and back cover are scuffed from shelf wear and the lower left corner has a couple of creases. The bottom corner of page 263 to the end of the book, 32 pages, is bent in varying degrees and the top corner of page 263 is creased. ; 16mo 6" - 7" tall; 294 pages; From the back cover: The book (first published in 1861) is agreed to be Turgenev's masterpiece and its hero, Bazarov, is one of the most remarkable figure in Russian literature. Turgenev's creation of the first literary nihilist and his demonstration of the failure of communication between generations succeeded in enraging both fathers and sons in the Russia of his time; they also help to explain the appeal of this work to Europeans today. Yet FATHERS AND SONS also contains some of the most moving scenes in the literature of any language. Fathers and Sons is an 1862 novel by Ivan Turgenev, his best known work. The title of this work in Russian is Отцы и дети (Otcy i Deti), which literally means "Fathers and Children"; the work is often translated to Fathers and Sons in English for reasons of euphony.
