About This Item

New York: Holt, Rinehart and Winston, 1973. First edition (stated). Very good plus in very good plus jacket.. First printing of the phenomenon that captured women's exploration of the newfound freedoms in second-wave feminism and the sexual revolution. A novel of sexual awakening from the perspective of a married woman living in the "post-Pill paradise" of the 1970s, FEAR OF FLYING struck a nerve with women across generations. Compared by male critics like Updike to CATCHER IN THE RYE and PORTNOY'S COMPLAINT, Jong's book is a messy exploration of sexuality, but its feminist perspective also created a roadmap for many women readers and women writers, including Jennifer Weiner, Meg Wolitzer, Naomi Wolf, and others in third-wave feminism. 8.25'' x 5.75''. Original blue cloth, spine lettered in red. In original price-clipped c olor pictorial dust jacket designed by Judith Seifer. Red endpapers. [12], 340 pages. Jacket lightly toned with mild edgewear. Book with slight lean. Else clean and sound.
