Pp xxii, 216, with a planting layout diagram, a full-page illustration of a fern pillar, and 80 further engravings in the text. The Title concluded "With Instructions for Their Cultivation and Treatment Both on a Large Scale and in Fern Cases". Rubs to hd/tl of spine, and two previous owners' inscriptions to the upper blank margin of the Preface. Otherwise very good, in the original blind & gilt-decorated cloth-covered boards/gilt titles. Uncommon. Together with, loosely inserted [as a bookmark?] a 5" x 3" slip of paper with on its upper, pink, glossy surface, an engraving of a swan & cygnet with reeds, "S.A. 1815".. First Edition. Good/Later loose protective Jacket.
