Description:
Paris, 1868. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Good. First Editions, 7 volumes published between 1868 and 1873. A complete set of what must have been one of the most impressive bibliographical publications of 19th Century France - indeed Europe. Copiously illustrated with facsimiles and colour reproductions, (many of which are fold-out and impressively large) of remarkable manuscripts and bindings throughout history. In contemporary 1/4 calf with raised bands and blue labels at one stage this set must have been particularly eye-catching but sadly time has taken its toll somewhat. In various states of condition ranging from Good/VG to Fair only. Most with substantial off-setting in places, many tissue-guards missing from the plates. Some occasional spotting and damp-staining to odd volumes but not terribly so. The bindings are overall in Fair condition with several split (and one entirely loose) backstrips and corners. This has been a working set and as well as bearing the bookplate of their original owner at…

Description:
London: Printed for J. Phillips... H. Rhodes... J. Taylor, 1705. Disbound. Fair. Fifth edition, ESTC 006058725. Appears to have been bound at some point (leather and gilt on spine) but boards are now absent. First and last signatures loose but included, pages a bit toned, faint discoloration along fore edge margin. 1705 Disbound. [viii], 113, [1] pp. A commentary on Thomas Hobbes's Leviathan first published in 1672, with corrections made by the author. John Bowle (Hobbes and His Critics, London 1951) calls the Dialogues "one of the most effective of all the [contemporary] attacks on Hobbes." Eachard was primarily known as a satirist and was praised by John Dryden and used as a source by Lord Macaulay for his History of England, though Jonathan Swift pointed out that his serious writings were no better than the ones he ridiculed. Description:
New York: G.P. Putnam's Sons / The Knickerbocker Press, 1927. Half-Leather. Very Good/No Jacket. Corners a bit rubbed, boards faintly soiled, ink date and owner bookplate of Robert N. Cherry on front flyleaf. 1927 Half-Leather. iv, 325 pp. 8vo. No binder's ticket, but appears to be a contemporary custom rebinding: blue leather spine and corners over blue cloth, gilt titles and rules, top edge gilt, new end sheets. "The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin is the traditional name for the unfinished record of his own life written by Benjamin Franklin from 1771 to 1790; however, Franklin himself appears to have called the work his Memoirs. Although it had a tortuous publication history after Franklin's death, this work has become one of the most famous and influential examples of an autobiography ever written. Franklin's account of his life is divided into four parts, reflecting the different periods at which he wrote them.
