About This Item
London: Chatto and Windus. Hardcover. VG. No DW. 7" x 4.5". 233 pages. No publication date but undoubtedly first printing of Phoenix Library edition 1928. Presented to Mill Hill School, the illustrative library plate for which is inside the front cover. Neat note on this plate says "Rebound 1932" (and this rebinding is in half leather) and also indicates it was presented to the school in 1930. No other inscriptions or annotations. "Of the 9 stories which comprise FIERY PARTICLES, perhaps Montague's most famous book, 4 are set in peacetime England, Ireland & Australia. The remainder are concerned with WWI; all display the author's unequalled sense of irony, pathos and style in writing of the highest imaginative value." Author became pivotal in anti-war literature post-World War 1. .
