Housed in a superb contemporary album of mahogony Morocco leather, extensive gilt to spine compartments, gilt decoration to the front and rear boards, decorative gilt turn-ins. Binding very good, hinges firm, professional and inconspicuous repairs to the head/tail of the spine. The album opens to reveal original satin effect Moire endpapers. The specimens are in a very good state of preservation, carefully pressed to paper. A very attractive Victorian collection of sea-weed specimens housed in a superb album. It is quite unusual to find an album in such a good condition..

Not Appropriate, 1852. 29 sheets of mounted sea-weeds, consisting of approximately 80 specimens. Each page with manuscript captions giving dates (1852-1858) and places of collection, including Plymouth, Llandudno, Worthing, Penmaen Mawr and Dunoon. On a couple of pages the specimens are arranged decoratively. A contemporary two-verse manuscript poem regarding 'flowers of the sea' has been penned to a front page. Housed in a superb contemporary album of straight-grained mahogony morocco, with folding flap to the fore-edge, secured to the rear board with a metal pin and clasp, extensive gilt and blind stamped decoration to the boards and flap. The album opens to reveal full pockets to front and back with leather gusseted sides, each pocketed faced with navy blue straight-grained morocco; the flap also lined internally with the same; marbled free end- papers. Binding very good, lightly rubbed with a few small, professional and inconspicuous repairs to the head/tail of the spine and flap. The specimens are generally in a very good state of preservation, a small loose specimen has been protected in a clear plastic sleeve as has another specimen found in one of the pockets.
