About This Item

Softcover with flaps. Publisher: Leandoer & Co Förlag | Utg. 2018 | Softcover with flaps | 240 sidor ; 19.6 cm | This book is brand new. When Soviet attacked Finland 30th of November 1939, everybody thought the war would be a walkover finished in a couple of weeks. Imagine the surprise when Finland not only managed to get a peace treaty but also managed to keep it´s independence after only 3,5 months of fighting during the Winter war. Not only this, but Finland fought another war, the Continuation war between 1941 and 1944 with the Soviet Union. Again little Finland managed to force the mighty Soviet to accept Finnish independence. 1944 saw Finland attack and evict the German forces, that had been in Finland since 1941, from Finnish territory in what would become known as the Lapland war. During the 6 years of the Second World War, Finland managed to fight three separate wars and one can hardly say that they as a nation lost any of them. Especially as they now as a nation celebrates 100 years of continuously being independent. And although there´s been many books written about these conflicts, never has there been a book that illustrates these wars with models built to illustrate part of these conflicts. Building models to illustrate history has been and will continue to be, a very big and popular hobby. Most often plastic is used as material but also metal, wood and paper is used. We have gathered 11 different builders from all over the world. Their builds will be used to illustrate all three wars. All kinds of material has been used. Both vehicles, aircrafts and men has been used as objects for these models. All models has a fact based history attached to it. In many cases we have been able to trace exactly what pilot who flew what aircraft. It is the first time in publishing that model builds has been accompanied with so correct historical backgrounds. This makes this book and the whole series of books planned for, unique. It is a the same time both a heavily fact laden model book as well as a heavily illustrated fact book about the Finnish wars during the Second World War. Among the models depicted are the BT-42, Bf109, the storming of a trench, Gladiator, Brewster and trucks.
