About This Item

Simon and Schuster, 1947. Hardcover. Acceptable. Third printing. Songs selected by Margaret Bradford Boni and arranged for piano by Norman Lloyd. Wonderful full color and two-color illustrations by Alice and Martin Probensen. This book of folk songs leans toward "good" condition due to the fact all pages and end pages are still attached to binding, and binding has not separated, everything is intact. The pictorial on front board looks great, although the green boards have faded and cloth spine is tanned. However, this book has seen much use over the years and spent time on many piano music stands/holders, which has worn the paper board covers through around all edges, front and back. Cardboard shows through on all corners, especially on back corner and bottom edges. Top and bottom of spine are bumped and lightly worn through. The pages are free of notations, or owners name on end sheets. Penciled price at top right of title page has been erased and is very faint. Pages are lightly yellowed to a darker cream color. End papers are decorated. Musical pieces are arranged in categories which include, Ballads and Old Favorites, Work Songs, Marching Songs and Songs of Valor, and Old Hymns and Spirituals. Each section is prefaced by factoids and interesting tidbits about history of the types of songs. To sum, very worn, bumped, and scraped board edges. Fading to board covers. Yellowed pages and text block. Binding intact and not separated from headband. All pages intact and not falling out. Nice folk song history and readable copy.
